The Cap’s coastal path is open – walking Tire-Poil and Villa Eilenroc this autumn

Cliff works kept part of the sentier du littoral closed until the end of September. On 1 October the city lists the path as open – and autumn is the best time of year to walk it.

The coastal path around the tip of the Cap d’Antibes – the sentier du littoral, known locally as Tire-Poil – is open. The city of Antibes Juan-les-Pins publishes the path’s status on its website, and on 1 October 2026 it read “ouvert”.

It has not been a straightforward year for the path. In February the city announced on its official account that, because of continuing work to secure the rock faces, a stretch of about 50 metres at the western end would stay closed to the public until 30 September 2026.

The walk

According to the Antibes Juan-les-Pins tourist office, the path runs for 3.7 kilometres from the beach below Villa Eilenroc to the bay of La Garoupe. It follows the rocks at the edge of the sea, with views back along the Cap, and passes the small beach of the Anse de l’Argent Faux.

A few practical points, from the tourist office listings:

  • Access is free, and the path is listed as open every day of 2026, subject to favourable weather.
  • It is not accessible by wheelchair.
  • The nearest bus stop is a 10 to 20 minute walk.

The path runs close to the water and is exposed to the weather. The city’s status page is the place to check before setting out.

A guided walk with a naturalist

The tourist office lists guided nature walks on the path, in French, on dates set out in its monthly programme; groups can ask for a visit in English. The walk starts from the free car park at La Garoupe and lasts two and a half hours. It is a way to learn the plants and birds of the shore – sea lavender, Jupiter’s beard, the common tern – and the protected species the path runs through.

Villa Eilenroc reopens on Saturdays

At the western end of the walk, Villa Eilenroc closed to the public throughout August because of the risk of fire. It reopened in September. According to the tourist office:

  • From 1 September to 31 December 2026 it is open on Saturdays, from 10:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:30.
  • The single rate is €2.
  • The first floor of the villa is open on Saturdays.

The villa was built in 1867 to plans by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Paris and Monte Carlo opera houses, on an estate of 11 hectares at the tip of the Cap. Its park is planted with Mediterranean species, and a public rose garden holds thousands of varieties, most of them created in Antibes. A scented garden was added at the entrance to the rose garden in 2011.

The tourist office marks all opening hours as subject to change, so a call or a look at its listing before a visit is sensible.

Why autumn

October and November bring cooler days and quieter paths. With the summer visitors gone and the gardens at Eilenroc open on Saturdays, it is the season when the Cap belongs to the people who live on it.
