Les Pêcheurs
The morning's catch, cooked above the water at Le Croûton
An institution since the 1940s, the Michelin-starred restaurant of the Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel is led by Nice-born chef Nicolas Rondelli, who writes his menu around what comes in on the fishing boat each morning.
Why VERA picked it
Few tables on the Riviera are this close to their fish: the catch comes from a fisherman at the little port next door. Add the view to the Lérins Islands and it is a truly memorable dinner.
A fisherman's house
Les Pêcheurs began life as the Maison des Pêcheurs and has been a fixture of Mediterranean cooking on the Cap since the 1940s. Today it is the fine-dining room of the Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel, a 35-room, five-star address between Port Gallice and the little Port du Croûton, and it holds one Michelin star.
Like a yacht
The room is built to feel like a boat from another age. A mahogany staircase leads up; the floor is red travertine; chrome columns stand like masts; and wide glass bays open onto a terrace that looks down over the coast, with sails moving on the water.
The chef and the catch
Nicolas Rondelli is from Nice. He started at the Negresco alongside Alain Llorca and worked with Jacques Chibois before taking charge here. Each morning the seafood is chosen with Tony, one of the two fishermen on this stretch of coast, and the menu changes with what the sea gives. Local producers supply the rest. Rondelli likes to borrow from other cuisines – an artichoke barigoule bao, say, or Sisteron lamb – served as set menus or à la carte.
